Who Was The Hero Of Hanukkah?

Friday, December 21st, 2007

By Dr. Mel Glazer Okay, all you scholars of Jewish history, the Rabbi has a question for you. What does it mean to be a hero? In the famous Hanukkah story, which we all know and love; the story of Judah Maccabbee and his family who fought and defeated the Syrian-Greeks and rededicated the Temple; the tiny little cruise of oil which was only supposed to last for one day but lasted for eight days; the piercing story of Hannah and her sons who died rather than profane the Holy Name of God; in that famous story, who was the hero? Who exhibited the most courage? Well, you could say that all of them were heroes, and to a degree you would be right. Judah and his brothers showed physical bravery against the raw physical power of the opposing armies. They fought well, they were brave and we remember them with affection and with pride. It is perhaps no accident that when we Jews, be it in the State of Israel or the Diaspora, schedule Olympic-type events, they are almost always called the Maccabi Games or the Maccabiah. We venerate the efforts shown by the Maccabees, and we honor them in this moving way. Hannah and her sons were also heroesthe sons refused to renounce their religion and they were willing to die as martyrs in order to sanctify the Holy name of God, and Hannah stood and watched as each one was killed.. She could have told them to give in to the Romans, but she did not. Our Tradition is filled with examples of those who chose to die as Jews rather than to live as apostates. The Ten Rabbis who were executed by the Romans and those brave souls who died on Masada remind us always of the need to protect our Jewish identity, no matter what. But my own personal choice for the Hero of Hanukkah is the priest who lit the menorah in the Temple KNOWING that there was only enough oil for one day. He knew this oil had to last for eight days, because that is how many days earlier Temple Dedications had lasted. He knew he did not have enough oil, and he lit anyway. How could he do this? He had faith that somehow, in a way that even he did not know at that time, somehow a miracle would happen and there would be enough oil. The easiest thing for him to have done would be not to light the menorah, and probably no one would have criticized him. But he did not take the easy way out. He had faith, he lit the menorah, and the miracle happened.Miracles happen to those who invite them to happen. In the time of the Maccabees, and in our own time as well. Happy Hanukkah! Things To Do With Newspaper

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

By Andrea Stephenson Back in my teaching days we were always looking for ways to make education entertaining on a low budget. However, the idea that follows is not just useful for educators but also anybody who is looking for something to pass a rainy day indoors without having your children glued to the television. You will need: As much newspaper as possible Tape Some picture books / magazines showing clothing The first step is to be realistic. Choose a picture of a costume that will present a challenge but is within the abilities of the age range carrying out the project. It may be a supermodels latest fantastic showpiece from Milan or a historical outfit: a Samurai, a Geisha and a Victorian ladys crinolin were all examples my students produced. The realm of fantasy has countless possibilities: Neptune, Medusa, a werewolf or a harpy are just some suggestions that immediately come to mind. This works best in groups of three or four, but can be done with just two people. One will have to be the model, the others the designers. By rolling, crinkling and folding the paper and connecting sections together with tape the most fantastic costumes can begin to take form. For the more adventurous, other everyday household items can be used. Sponges or potato printing for painting the costume, or incorporate other household items like empty yoghurt pots and bottle tops. A basic costume can be built in under an hour, a more complex one can provide hours of entertainment for all involved. If you want to carry it even further why not hold a fashion show? This project can be as fun and as involved as you make it! Andrea is an author on http://www.Writing.Com/ which is a site for Creative Writers. How Not to Transfer Colleges

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

By Sarah Kurczodyna At the beginning of my senior year in high school, I sent off half a dozen college applications and recieved acceptance letters from most. After much thought, I chose to attend the local junior college instead of an out-of-town university. My plan was simple: spend two years earning my associates degree, transfer, spend two more years to finish my bachelors. In the end, it didn’t turn out that way. They say hindsight is 20/20, so I am here to share my experience so you may gain from it. Here is a list of what not to do when transferring colleges: 1. Do NOT put your associates before you bachelors degreeMy first mistake was knowing the graduation requirements for the junior college I attended and paying little attention to the requirements for my transfer college of choice. I spent two and a half years memorizing the graduation checklist to get my associates. When I finally thought to look at what would be expected of me at the university I had applied to for a transfer, I discovered almost a full third of my classes were not going to count towards my major. If I had compared the requirements for both degrees sooner, I could have still earned my associates without wasting those eight classes. 2. Do NOT put off your transfer applicationThis is perhaps the one mistake I didn’t make. My transfer university promised a response within two months; I applied five months before the start of the quarter. It is always best to apply well ahead of time to give yourself time to breathe and to tackle any roadblocks that might come up. Face it, they happen. 3. Do NOT put off sending your transcriptsThis means both college and high school. Some colleges require an associates-level of college credit before they will accept a transfer, others are not as picky. If you do not have the required number of college credits, the transfer school could put a hold on your application to wait for high school transcripts. It is best to send both off, preferably within a few days of filling out your application. If you can, do it the same day. Don’t wait for them to send you a request for your transcripts. You should also keep in mind that in-progress classes will not be counted as college credit. When you finish the semester and your final grades are in, send a second copy of your transcripts to the school or you won’t get credit for the classes you just took. 4. Do NOT expect them to contact youThis isn’t saying they won’t contact you, just don’t wait for them to do it. Read up on their admissions procedure, taking special notice of how long it should take to hear back from them. If you haven’t heard from them within the minimum amount of time, do not hesitate to call the admissions office and ask about the status of your application. Do this frequently until you recieve your acceptence (or rejection) letter. This will enable you to stay on top of any requirements or any holds on your application. Most universities will attempt to contact you if there are problems with your application, but do not depend on it. 5. Do NOT wait for your acceptance letter before actingEven before I got my acceptance letter, I had purchased a college catalog, made a list of classes I would have to take and when they were offered, contacted the financial aid office, and made contact with staff working under my major. I had also toured the campus with a map in hand, discovered just how bad parking would be, and what would be the best way to get in and out of campus. This meant I was very comfortable with the idea of attending my transfer university, before I’d even registered for my first class! Summary of Ephesians

Monday, December 17th, 2007

By Aaron Schwartz The most important basic component of the written New Testaments tradition is the manuscripts of letters epistles, authorship of which scientists connect with the names of apostles and the addressees were the first Christian communities churches, - which were situated in different parts of Roman empire. The apostles were like the leaders or teachers of those communities. Different historical events, data about the activity of the first churches and all Acts of the apostles were fixed in the written form. This oral and written material was used as a basis for genre formation of the New Testament Holy Scriptures in I in the beginning of II century of A.D. in the early Christian society. Later these Holy Scriptures became a basis of the Church Biblical Canon of New Testament. In 50-60-s the material of apostles epistles was formed, in these letters apostles were like the religious and ethical teachers, the first Christian theologians. Some of the Epistles (Books) are considered, because of the time of their formation, the New Testament Biblical works. Some of the Epistles were written later in 70-90-s of I century. Among these works scientists mark out the most numerous group, the author of which, traditionally, is considered the apostle Paul. Among the most ancient works of Paul Galatians, Romans, Corinthians. The apostle Paul was Jewish; according to his education he was a scribe. From the very first days of his existence he was a real oppressor of the Christians, but then he was miraculously converted to Christianity. There are a lot of different opinions according to the authorship of Pauls Epistles. Some scientists consider that the apostle Paul wrote only four or five Books (Romans, Galatians, Corinthians, Ephesians). Many of the Christian theologians have doubts as to the presents of God spirit in his works and as to the Pauls authorship. Saul was the main participant of beating up Stephen with stones (quite widespread way of execution of robbers, trumps in ancient Jerusalem) and the main inspirer of Christian persecutions, though he was supposed to become one of the most impetuous Jesus Christs disciples with a course of time. Paul (Saul) was born in Tars in 10 or 12 year A. D. As the custom of that time dictated, his name was converted into Latin one Paul. His kin, as every decent and ancient Jewish kin, belonged to Pharisaical party. Paul was brought up in religious way of this sect. Jewish-pharisees rarely went to secular educational institutes. The most famous and respectful in Tars were rhetoric schools, where classical Greek was taught. Its unbelievable that Paul, who had taken lessons there, could be able to write in such a poor, incorrect language, so different from Hellenic in its speech patterns. But so all of his Epistles were written.Paul exclusively belongs to Jewish culture. That is why all his works can be compared rather with ancient Jewish religious tradition than with Ancient Greek philosophy. His style is full of sharp moves from one theme to another, which interrupt the thoughts he tries to express. His extracts are separated from each other and they express different ideas. Texts of his works are not solid. Ephes is one of the most famous cities of Asia Minor, it is situated on the bank of Caistr River. For a long time Ephes was the adornment and religious center of Asia and it was famous by its very beautiful temple of Diana. In 54 the apostle Paul arrived to the city and began his sermon in the Judaic synagogue. After his sermon many of people began to believe in the principles of Christianity, I mean, they were converted to Christianity. Some people of Ephes were given the Holy gift of prophecy. His sermon in Ephes was continued during three years and it was accompanied with different miracles. In this period Paul wrote his first epistle (Corinthians). After his sermon many people left their old religion (some cult of Diana) and were converted to Christianity, but there were many unsatisfied people, because some men earned money from the selling of statues of Diana and others things of the cult. Book (Epistle) of Ephesians consists of the six chapters. It was written by the apostle Paul almost in the same time as the Book of Colossians, when he was arrested in Rome for the first time. This Book (epistle) was sent to the Ephesians with Tikhic, who was very devoted servant of God. In this Book Paul, with his heart full of love to God, presents Christianity as the greatest wisdom, the source of which is the expiation of sins through believing in Jesus Christ. According to its content, it can be divided into two parts: about dogmas (I III) and about morals (IV VI). The content and style of the Book of Ephesians are very exalted and edifying. The apostle Paul was very unpleasant to those people in Ephes, who believed in ancient gods, but there was a long sermon of Paul about the statement that people did not love their gods, but they loved only money, silver and gold. Herbal Pill, Act with Caution

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=NamSing_Then] NamSing Then Normally the spam mails one receives regularly in their mail boxes speak of herbal pills used for enlargement of the penis or “male enhancement” or about the herbal breast enlargement pills for women. There are people who advertise pills for curing hair loss or bring about weight loss. They always offer a grand reduction, a substantial cut of the profits and entice you to buy their products. This “herbal supplement” industry began on the Internet around 2002, is still rapidly expanding, without question because it’s so profitable. Now expanding beyond the Internet, some of these companies also run “male enhancement” ads on late-night cable TV and in the backs of otherwise respectable magazines. They either buy or manufacture cheap generic pills containing random herbal mixtures and they market these pills to “cure” any of an array of conditions. Whats common to all these pills? They all focus on human insecurities. There are even pills that claim to make short people magically grow taller. These pills are sold at unbelievably high prices, something around $50 or thereabouts for a bottle of pills, which may have costed only two cents each, at most, to manufacture. As the profits are so huge, these companies are able to offer lucrative affiliate deals to online internet websites willing to advertise them. Herbal Spamming: A Point to PonderAlso very often these websites or unsolicited emails exaggerate your medical condition and try to scare you into buying one of their herbal pills. Ask any authentic medical doctor and they’ll tell you these herbal pills do absolutely nothing toward the conditions they’re marketed to treat. The secret of the success lies in the pills being marked as “herbal”. Because a company can make any claim whatsoever about it; without doing any clinical trials and isn’t subjected to the restrictions that other prescription medications must strictly follow. And the marketers make their web sites, ads and commercials look exactly like those advertising legitimate prescription medications. It’s all a part of a big lie designed to fool you into shelling over your money. Remember: 1. Never ever buy any “herbal” pills that claim to be miraculous as said above as it is targeted at a common human insecurity.2. Report spam e-mails from these companies to SpamCop. 3. E-mail or call the cable channel/radio station that runs ads for these products telling that you will stop watching unless they stop advertising these fraudulent products. Antidepressants: Control or Cure?

Friday, December 14th, 2007

By Chris Green Whats curious is that most of them will be on these drugs for life. Equally curious is that over seventy percent of people who stop taking them, for any length of time, will relapse into another painful episode of their illness. Somethings rotten in Denmark. Because if these drugs are as effective as their manufacturers claim, then sufferers should be cured of their illness. Clearly, this isnt happening. Why? I mean, if these drugs are so good, why dont they cure stress, anxiety and depressive illness? The commonly held belief, both by the medical profession and people who suffer from illnesses such as stress, anxiety and depression, is that anti-depressant drugs are the most effective treatment. This is in fact, not quite true. Antidepressant drugs DO help a sufferer. But they can only help them TEMPORARILY. They cannot offer a permanent cure for these illnesses. This is because anti-depressants treat ONE of the SYMPTOMS of stressful illnesses reduced levels of “happy chemicals” called neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are the chemicals inside our brains that help to regulate our moods. So all anti-depressants do is to give the sufferer a “boost” by raising levels of neurotransmitters. The real issue here is that once the sufferer ceases the medication, there is a seventy percent chance of relapse. The reason for relapse is because these drugs simply havent addressed the root cause of these illnesses. By boosting levels of our happy chemicals all the drugs are doing is masking the problem. Now, in the short term, giving our mental well-being a boost by increasing the levels of happy chemicals is very helpful in helping us START the process of recovery. The last sentence is very important. It explains how these drugs should be used. Because when we feel stressed out, burned out, terrified of the future or that life has no point (all common feelings associated with stressful and depressive illnesses), we find it almost impossible to function. Finding our own way out of the tunnel is mission impossible. And thats where antidepressants can help. In giving us a boost, we can feel more able to cope. We can START to take the first steps towards ending our suffering. But they will not provide a permanent cure. They only way to cure these painful illnesses is to address the root cause as to why these illnesses arise. The root cause is down to harmful mental habits and processes we have learned and put to use for most of our lives since childhood in the majority of instances. And there lies the crucial difference. Antidepressants can help us in the short-term by CONTROLLING the illness. Learning the mental habits and processes that crush these illnesses so they cannot even begin to arise help us in the long-term by CURING these illnesses. Something else I think you’ll find illuminating about these drugs: No single drug has proven to be more effective than any other and the latest research conducted at Yale university in the United States has revealed that drugs are ineffective for seventy percent of sufferers. This is because chemical imbalances in the brain are a symptom and not a cause. You now know why this is so. Whats also interesting to note is that sales of these drugs in the US alone are worth $12 BILLION annually. Pretty good for something that cannot provide a cure dont you think? Of course, one of the issues here is having a sufferer paying thousands of hard-earned dollars for a drug which cannot cure them month in, month out, year in, year out. I dont think thats right. Because I firmly believe that people who are suffering from stress, anxiety, panic, depression and similar illnesses, want to get rid of it from their lives forever. Cure means cured, permanently. I overcame a terrible 5 year period of anxiety-induced depression without taking any antidepressants. By learning to address the harmful mental habits and processes which took me to the lowest point anyone can go, I turned my life around and found happiness again. What worked for me will work for you and it will provide the one thing you deserve and what antidepressant drugs can never provide: A permanent cure to your suffering. IMPORTANT: PLEASE CONSULT WITH YOUR HEALTH PROFESSIONAL BEFORE YOU STOP TAKING ANY ANTIDEPRESSANT MEDICATION. Greenhouses - Building a Greenhouse

Friday, December 14th, 2007

By Hilary Basile Thorough planning and preparation is essential before starting your greenhouse project. Building a greenhouse need not be time-consuming or expensive. Your greenhouse design will very much depend on your homes home architecture, space and plants that you want to grow, cost and available location. Make sure your greenhouse will provide the environment suitable for your chosen type of plants. Location Your greenhouse must be built in a site where it will get the full and concentrated sunlight. Your best option is the southeast side of your house or shade of trees. All day sunlight is best, though also consider the morning sunlight coming from the east side because this is adequate for most plants, as it permits the course food production to start early so then progress is maximized. Deciduous trees like oak and maple can shade the greenhouse effectively from the strong late afternoon sun during the summer but they must not shade or cover your greenhouse during the morning. These trees likewise permit maximum sun exposure during the winter due to the shedding of their foliage during fall. The location on the east captures most of the November to February sunshine. Your greenhouse must not be located beside trees having leaves all year as it will block the winter sun. You must maximize greenhouse exposure to winter sun especially if your greenhouse will be used year-round. Another necessity for the location of your greenhouse is good drainage. When needed, construct your greenhouse higher than the ground so irrigation and rainwater will easily drain away. Other factors that should be considered include: light that is required by certain types of plants that you will grow, water, electricity, heat and protection from strong wind. You will need to set up a workplace and an area for storage of your supplies in your greenhouse. Building a Greenhouse Materials: 5 pieces of 20 foot each of 5/8 inch rebar, cut into 1/3’s - 6 foot in length 7 pieces of 20 foot schedule 40 PVC drilled with a hole size 3/16 to inch dead center at 10 feet 84 feet that is cut into 4 foot lengths of schedule 40 PVC 80 pieces size 2X4 wood (treated) 4 pieces fence posts, 8 foot in length (treated) Size 40X24 fee UV polyethylene, stabilized 60 pieces 2 inches fence staples Build Your Greenhouse:Begin by extending a thin rope or string where the two long sides of your greenhouse should be. Then pound the 6 foot rebar in, each with a distance of 4 feet away from each other, in a straight line and allowing 48 inches to protrude from the soil or ground. Nail the 2X6 runner on to the rebar stakes. This will provide you with something so as to nail on the polyethylene later. You may use a 60 2 inch fence staples. Slide in the PVC pieces (20 inch) over the rebar stakes, making certain that no sharp points are exposed, such as rebar, wire ends, rough pipes, etc. Put the PVC pieces (20 foot) on the rebar stakes. You need to have somebody do one side as you also do the other side carefully and slightly at each time. Make sure that you drilled holes parallel to the ground. Slide the wire all through the PVC holes and through the 8 PVC (4foot) pieces along the roof. So as the ribs will not shift horizontally, you need to wire together the 4 foot PVC pipe lengths with either baling or copper wire. Make certain that the wire is wrapped so that the PVC pipe is forced inward. Construct the two end walls and the doors. Use vertical posts (4X4) 10 foot length and buried 3 or 4 feet for the doorway frame. Make certain that the end walls are not floppy and must stay vertically so that the PVC will not separate. Your door must be very tight so that the wind will not be able to inflate the greenhouse. Drive some nails into the posts base horizontally of the posts and submerge them to the ground. Solicit help from someone for the next step. Each person needs to stand on each side holding the plastic, slide it over the rib cage and then attach the ends by wrapping the plastics end around lath pieces then nail the lath to the end walls and also along the foundation. Be creative and add a few of your personal touches. Enjoy your greenhouse! Hilary Basile is a writer for MyGuidesUSA.com. Temping: A Backdoor Entrance to New Careers

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

By Scott Brown If youre in between jobs or having trouble finding the career you want, you might want to consider temping. Its a great way to avoid having gaps on your resume and you may also get a chance to learn something new. If youre looking to change careers but dont know where to start, its also a great way to gain experience without making a life change. You can temp for a little while and then decide if its time to change fields. Experience will get you everywhere so go out and get some Listing it on your resume A lot of people are afraid to take a temp job because theyre afraid of how it will look on their resume. But keep in mind that temping is not what it used to be. If you present it the right way, an interviewer will focus on your skills and experience, not that fact that you held a temp job. Temping jobs are great for mid-life career changers, as they can help you find yourself in terms of your new career. People often take temping jobs when they are in between jobs and need some income for the time being. However, some temp jobs last longer than permanent jobs. Simply list your temp job(s) by the employer(s) you worked for. If you list the job as Johnson Temp Agency if may hurt your chances of getting a permanent job. While theres nothing wrong with doing temporary work, we are often judged by the content of our resumes before we even meet an employer. List the job title, employer, and then the name of the agency to avoid unnecessary biases. For example: Administrative Assistant, ABC Corporation, New York, NY January 2004-present This way, if someone is quickly skimming your resume, they wont immediately see that you were/are employed as a temp. De-emphasize the temporary part These days regular jobs are sometimes just as temporary as temp jobs. Its a tough economy with a lot of competition. But your temping experience can be an advantage if you have gotten a lot out of it. Remember, if your stint as a temp was brief, you dont even have to list it all. However, if the experience (long or short) has benefited you as a professional, by all means, mention it Here are some quick reasons why you should mention your temping experience: You went above and beyond the call of duty at your temp job As a result, you have more skills, learned new programs, etc. You worked for a nationally recognized firm for a period of 6 months or more Remember, its your choice whether or not you even use the word temp. You might want to avoid using words like temporary or temp altogether. Just be honest if you are questioned about your work history. When it comes time for an interview, keep your spirits up. Be as upbeat as possible about your temping experience and share all the positive aspects that have molded you into the professional you are today. Keep in mind that your feelings on the subject will show through. So think of your temping experience as a good one and others will too! WWE : Shawn Michaels and His Religion

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

By Jeremy G. I am a long time WWE Fan, but more importantly I am a diehard Shawn Michaels fan. Shawn Michaels has always been my favorite wrestler. When he made his return to the ring at the 2002 summerslam event I was astounded with elation. About 3 and a half years ago I read on the internet how Shawn became a born again christian, and that wrestling no longer ultimately established who he was as a person. When I read that wrestling no longer consumed him the way it once had, I have to admit I was disappointed. I was disappointed because I felt that I would never again see the HBK that was on top of the wrestling world from 96′ to 98′. I felt this way simply because wrestling was no longer his number 1 passion, or should I say obsession, in his life anymore. I waited so long for him to be the WWE Heavyweight Champion. It was awesome seeing him as the IC champ in the early to mid 90’s as he was one of the greatest intercontinental champions of all time, in my opinion, of course. When he first captured the WWE title in the first ever 60 minute Iron Man Match against Bret Hart at Wrestlemania 12.. I wanted to see his title reign last forever. This is from the standpoint of an extreme Shawn Michaels fan. From a personal standpoint I found it interesting because I, myself, was really trying to find myself spiritually around the time of reading this. Back in 1999, when I was 16, I had a girlfriend who was a born again christian. I didn’t know what it was all about, but I wanted to become a born again christian as well to feel closer to her. She lead me into prayer in which I repeated the words she would say, but I repeated these words without really listening to what I was saying. I didn’t go to church, or ever read the bible. I had no clue what born again christianity was all about, but supposedly I was saved at the age of 16. However, after a horrifying experience that lead to the demise of our relationship, I fell into a deep depression and became very bitter. At this point I had absolutely no faith in God. In the summer of 2002, a woman mistakenly rang my doorbell thinking she was ringing the doorbell of my neighbor. My neighbor had apparently visited the church that this woman attended. I told her that she had rung the wrong doorbell. She casually started talking about how God had changed her life, and I was really touched by her words and her emotions as she spoke. She asked me if I ever had surrendered my life to the lord. I never considered what I did back in 1999 as surrendering my life to the lord.. simply because I just repeated some words without actually meaning them. So I told the lady that I had never done so. When the lady asked me if I wanted to surrender my life to the lord.. I don’t know what it was exactly.. Maybe it was because the woman was so nice and I felt I would let her down if I didn’t.. or the feeling of vulnerability with a need to find meaning in my life.. I’m not sure exactly, but once again I surrendered my life to the lord. Again, however, I did this with no real knowledge or a real belief in Jesus Christ. My dad’s side of the family is catholic, and some members of the family would always say grace at dinner. So I just took it as a given that Jesus Christ existed and died for all of our sins. I never really formed an informative opinion about it before. The lady who rung my doorbell wanted me to go to church, and I did not want to at all. I just thought of church as a real bore, but she ended up talking me into it. I kept fighting back and forth with myself with whether or not I should get involved with religion. I prayed on it but felt such a wave of energy running through me like I had never felt before. I started getting chills, and my heart would beat so fast whenever I would think of God and Jesus Christ. I kept repeating in my head that Jesus Christ is my lord and savior, and had died for all of my sins. The more I thought of this the more I started to feel greater spurts of energy and chills running throughout my body. I noticed that I was being distracted with so many random feelings. Feelings of lust, hunger, fatigue, and other similar feelings arose the more I consumed my mind with thoughts of Jesus. It was like something was triggering these feelings to take my mind off of these spiritual thoughts. It was very strange and surreal. I would tell you everything thing else that I experienced, but you would probably think I was insane or hallucinating. Nonetheless I started going to church, and started to get attached to the feeling of being part of something really important very fast. I read a book titled “Winning The War Within”, and I read in there how Satan works really hard on distracting christians with things of the flesh and the world. When I read that, it really made me feel that all of the things that happened that one night was Satan’s attempt to distract me.. yea I know it sounds insane! I read that with born again christianity the more spiritual you are the more Satan tries to bring you down. I also read that as a strong believing christian, you are a big threat to Satan. I was learning more and more about born again christianity. I started taking certain things that would happen throughout the day, and would convince myself that a higher spiritual power caused these things to happen. It became quite ridiculous to be perfectly honest. I took things in that I read and analyzed the content so much to the point where I kind of became a spiritual fanatic. Everytime I went to church it was so intense for me. I wanted to be everything the pastor preached about Jesus, and when I felt I couldn’t, I would mentally punish myself for it. My life became so wrapped around this new faith that I wanted to keep so badly. I felt so opposed to anyone close to me who didn’t share this faith, which happened to be everyone. My girlfriend at the time didn’t want anything to do with me, and my best friend was telling me how I was becoming brainwashed. My other friend and my dad would try to talk to me about something different, but I was just so uptight about a lot of topics that were controversial with my new-found christian beliefs. It got to a point where I could barely talk to anyone outside of the church without getting really upset. While in church, I would break down and cry because I just couldn’t handle it anymore. I eventually just gave up on it because I was trying way too hard to be a brand new person so fast, and I was way too hard on myself. Plus I jumped the gun, and was willing to believe that everything the pastor would say was the absolute and only truth. I went into this whole new stage of my life being so naive that I’d believe anything, and everything I heard in church. When it came down to it.. I didn’t want to risk losing my girlfriend, my friends, and even my dad. I would get into such big arguments with him over things that started with a talk about my day at church on sundays. He implied that ever since I got involved with religion, I’ve become obsessed and different. I also got the same vibe from my friends, and especially my girlfriend at the time. I looked at the situation, and asked myself do I really wanna go on like this? I was never baptized, nor did I ever practice an organized religion before this. I realized that it was too sudden and that I wasn’t ready for such a radical change in my life. It just wasn’t for me. I guess the reason I’m saying all of this is because I respect anyone who can be a certain way for so long, and then have the ability to totally reshape themselves for the better. It takes a great deal of human will, devotion, and inner strength to dedicate your whole life to a cause. Deep down I feel that dedicating your life to something that is bigger than yourself is the most unselfish, and amazing thing you can do with your life.. even though at this stage in my life, I am not ready to make such a commitment. For this I respect Shawn Michaels tremendously not only as professional athlete, and what he has brought to the business of professional wrestling.. but as an admirable and an amazing human being.
